Armour Transportation Systems is looking for an Intermodal Dispatcher based out of our Dartmouth, NS location.  

Position Overview: The Intermodal Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating the efficient movement of equipment and freight while ensuring compliance with safety regulations. This role requires close collaboration with business partners, terminals, and customers to eliminate obstacles in transit. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical and problem-solving skills to optimize multimodal transit planning and ensure operational efficiency.

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:30am – 5:00pm.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with safety measures.
  • Collaborate professionally with business partners, terminals, and customers to streamline the movement of equipment and freight.
  • Work with internal departments to optimize the use of equipment, including rail assets, chassis assets, and detention avoidance.
  • Plan and coordinate multimodal transit solutions, considering all available transport methods (rail, road, vessel).
  • Communicate effectively with drivers, ensuring they have the necessary paperwork and information to complete assignments successfully.
  • Make and execute dispatch decisions for equipment moving to/from CN rail, tracking all associated resources (containers, chassis, power units, drivers, etc.).
  • Perform data entry and create bills based on customer requests via email.
  • Track rented equipment and ensure timely returns to avoid additional charges.
  • Manage Oceanex bookings according to customer needs and requests.
  • Coordinate with steamship lines, Oceanex, CN, and customers to track and manage units, including left-behinds.
  • Handle billing processes, including RV creation.
  • Identify operational opportunities and communicate findings to relevant departments or terminals to implement resolutions.
  • Manage priority duties for various transit operations.
  • Respond to emails and voicemails within agreed timelines.
  • Participate in pre-planned meetings, training sessions, and company events, including transition meetings, daily reviews, safety meetings, and employee gatherings.
  • Assist with vacation coverage planning and ensure supervisors are updated on scheduling.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Multimodal Operations Manager based on business needs.

  • Self-motivated with the capacity to make informed decisions.
  • High-level multitasking ability in a fast-paced environment.

 

Experience:

  • Dispatch experience and familiarity with the TruckMate system are preferred assets.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly in creating reports using Word and Excel.
  • Strong typing and computer skills for efficient data entry and communication.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Fast-paced work environment with frequent communication demands.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts if required to cover operational gaps.
  • Capacity to manage a high volume of customer and driver communications through email, satellite, and phone.
