Dispatch Assistant

Armour Transportation Systems is looking for a Dispatch Assistant based out of our Dartmouth, NS location.  

Position Overview: The Dispatch Assistant is responsible for coordinating the movement of equipment and freight while ensuring seamless communication between departments, terminals, customers, and drivers. This role focuses on removing barriers to operations, maintaining accurate reporting, and providing support to enhance overall efficiency. The position requires strong organizational skills, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication to ensure successful logistics operations.

 Shift Schedule: 

  • Days - 2/2/3 rotation 

Essential Duties:

  • Collaborate with all departments, terminals, customers, and drivers to eliminate obstacles in equipment and freight movement.
  • Provide clear and timely communication to customers and drivers, ensuring they have the necessary paperwork and information for successful job completion.
  • Maintain accurate reporting for performance, equipment utilization, volumes, and forecasting, including the completion of scorecards and updating dispatch screens.
  • Oversee customer tracing, freight manifesting, and container creation/deactivation as required for tripping.
  • Participate in pre-planned meetings, including transition meetings, daily review meetings, and weekly shift meetings.
  • Additional duties as required

Essential Competencies:

  • Strong time management skills with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated with strong analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with individuals and groups.
  • Ability to analyze situations, identify issues or conflicts, and negotiate win-win solutions.

Working Conditions:

  • Fast-paced environment requiring adaptability and problem-solving.
  • Ability to work variable shifts as needed, including days, weekends, holidays, and extended hours to cover staffing gaps and vacations.
  • High volume of customer and driver interactions via email, satellite, and phone communication.

Technical Skills:

  • Experience in a dispatch environment is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the TruckMate system is considered an asset.
